WHO KILLED JESUS CHRIST?

Randall Walton

Some people say that Pontius Pilate, the Roman ruler who had civil jurisdiction over Judea and who held a summary interrogation of Jesus before turning Him over to the Jewish Sanhedrin, was totally responsible for His death, because he had it in his power to release Him, but struck a compromise instead.

Some say the Roman soldiers who drove the nails in His hands and feet and lifted Him up from the earth so He would hang helplessly from the Cross, were the guilty ones.

Still others blame the Sanhedrin, the Jewish High Priest and his assistants and scribes, who demanded His execution by crucifixion, for had they not persisted in their demand - - had they not coupled their demand with a threat of accusing Pilate with treason - - surely Pilate would have released Him and set Him free.

But all of these hypotheses are wrong! Jesus came into the world to die. His cruel death was foretold centuries before He was born, and it came about as a deliberately planned and executed murder!!

The Bible states that “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, everyone, to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6).

YOU and I are guilty of the death of Jesus Christ! Our own wicked ways and our evil hearts have made us accessories to the most heinous crime ever committed by mortal men. Even though we were not there, we killed Him! Our own personal sins helped to drive those spikes through His flesh: they gave strength to the lashes that drew blood from His back; our ungodliness helped to place the crown of thorns upon His head; our unbelief, our doubts of His Sonship were a part of the deadly spear which pierced His side. We are all accomplices because He died there in our place; He took upon Himself that which we all deserved.

Yes, Pilate was guilty, as were those foolish soldiers and the officials of the Sanhedrin. But in a greater sense they were merely the principals of the ACT; all mankind are abettors and stand in jeopardy, condemned before the Great Judgment Bar of Almighty God. However, Jesus died willingly because His dying means that you and I can be acquitted and completely absolved of our debt of guilt!!!

If Jesus had refused to die (which He could have - He could have called for deliverance by the angels of God), you and I would be forever, irretrievably condemned to extinction, but because He died, He now offers us pardon and freedom in this life and everlasting life in His heavenly kingdom.

Jesus now asks you to do something to show your appreciation for His ACT of pardon in your behalf.

            1.  Believe in your heart that He is the Son of God, that He died for you and rose again, and that                  His blood is efficacious for your ransom.

            2.  Confess your need of Him, that you are totally unable to save yourself and live apart from Him.

            3.  Then ask Him to forgive you of your past and to help with the future. The Bible says that who -                ever shall call on the Lord shall be saved.

YOU have helped to crucify the Lord Jesus Christ, but He offers amnesty, pardon, and forgiveness, if you will have it!  BELIEVE, CONFESS AND ASK Him, and you will be on your way to a new life in Jesus Christ - a life of peace, joy, and satisfaction as you follow Him in obedience to His Word.
